Superhero Girlfriends Part 2: Catwoman Has Daddy Issues

Greetings folks, second in the Superhero Girlfriends series we will now examine Catwoman. If you aren’t familiar with her, she’s a cat-burglar who was raised on the streets & eventually becoming a prostitute named Selina Kyle. She was abused by pimps & other clients. After being tired of the “ho life” she took charge of her life by stealing. Selina trained herself in martial arts & burglary techniques. She would only steal from the mega-rich or from other criminals. However this behavior would create multiple enemies such as Batman, Two-Face, Black Mask, Gotham City Police, & the Gotham City Mob. She eventually becomes a master thief & there was eventually a bounty placed on her by various mob factions in Gotham City.

When I look at the character of Catwoman I see quite a few adjectives. From feminist to sexpot & whole bunch of other things. The duality between her & Batman is interesting. She is unapologetic thief who’s code is to steal & steal big, while Batman has pledged his life to fighting crime. So no matter what they will always come into conflict because they honor their codes before anything else. Now let’s look at a few reasons of what makes her terrible girlfriend material.

1. Abandonment Issues – Remember she was orphaned so that means she wanted guidance but none was there. So of course with no proper male role-model, a pimp, molester, or criminal becomes her new father figure. This is a reason why she steals, it makes her feel better. It’s a great distraction from thinking about her past.

2. Trust Issues – Being on the streets, you meet so many unsavory people. This of course can make you untrustworthy of all folks. Between the men that have used & exploited you and the violent criminals. So no man can ever really capture her respect, except for Batman. The strength of his character & conviction makes her respect him, even though he’s a man of the “law”. However her trust issues keep their relationship due to him wanting her to turn her life around. She’s only trusted he ability to steal.

3. Attention Whore – Selina Kyle developed the Catwoman persona to be somewhat famous. Her actions will force others to pay attention to her. Even though there is a possibility that she could be killed, she would risk it. The reason is that she loves the attention even though it’s negative. Another example is the costume, it’s not only distracting. It allows men to ogle at her so lustfully. That is the prostitute side of her coming out. There’s an old saying some ladies use: “You have to use what you got, to get what you want.”

4. No Accountability – A lot of reckless females don’t account for their behavior. Some people call it sassy, which in turn allows her to have an excuse for being reckless. So any deviant behavior is just seen as “acting out” or “dealing with the hand that’s been dealt”. Remember she’s still a crook & like any crook she’s not immune to police The funny thing is that she feels somewhat justified in her actions, even though it brings more negative than positive.

Now some of y’all might say “Well Catwoman isn’t really Batman’s girlfriend.” However she’s the closest thing to what his dysfunctional life knows as a relationship. She’s got a long way to go before she’s eating breakfast in the a.m. at Wayne Manor. I just wrote this to show you how some guys chase this type of woman in real life, thinking they can change them. Sorry Bats, you gotta let that chick go.
